8th Post: Anne Frank

5-F
Act 1, Scenes 4, 5: Describe how the Hanukkah celebration in Scene 5 is interrupted. What does Peter do to make matters worse? According to Dussel, how will this incident lead to their discovery by the police?
It was the Hanukkah celebration and Mr. and Mrs. Frank were giving thanks and praying. Then, they lit the candles and they talked about giving presents but not having presents to give. Anne then goes into her room and gives each person a present. While they were doing the Hanukkah celebration, they hear the door rattle and footsteps. They are all silent and they are all scared and everyone’s heart is pounding. DUN. DUN. DUN. DUN. They then hear a cabinet open and they hear the thief working on the lock. All of a sudden, they see Peter’s cat messing with this metal cup with food in it. Peter then lunges for the cat but he knocks a metal pan or makes this loud noise which triggers the thief into taking the typewriter and running as fast as he can. And this resulted in the thief being clumsy and not closing the door. Mr. Dussel then complains that Peter’s cat has ruined everything and that the thief knows that Jews are hiding in the factory. Mr. Dussel then says that the thief will make a bargain with the police that he will tell them where some Jews are hiding if the police free the thief. Mr. Dussel says that if the thief gets captured, he will surely tell the police where they are hiding to be free himself.
